How to Quote Jobs From a Customer's Photo Without Climbing Down the Ladder

To quote jobs from a customer's photo, have the photo read by a system that applies your own price book, asks the customer at most one question, and sends a price range with a booking link in your words. When the length is only the customer's guess, hold the quote so you can check the range before it goes out. We built that as a working demonstration on sample data for a fence company.

The problem, in the owner's words

The owner's sentence is: "I'm on a ladder and the customer wants a price now." A customer texts a photo of the fence and asks what it will cost. The owner is mid-job, so the answer waits until the evening, and a customer who asked for a price at lunch has often called someone else by dinner.

A form that asks for twelve measurements does not help, because the customer only has the photo. What an owner wants is a price range from the photo and one sentence about the length, in a message that sounds like the owner and points to a booking link.

The job this replaces, and what it costs

The role is usually an estimator, an office manager, or the owner after hours. We cite no pay figure: our role data covers AI, systems and marketing roles, and we have not read a sourced figure for estimators.

The effort is easier to see in the sample. Ten past quotes took between 52 and 79 seconds of our reading and pricing each, and none of that counts the time a quote waited for someone to be free to write it.

How the demonstration works, step by step

The photo quote system below is a demonstration system running on invented sample data. No client uses this photo quote system, and nothing in it is a result anyone achieved. Here is the photo quote system recording, and below it the same path in order.

Demonstration system, sample data. About 34 seconds.
  1. The board shows the state of the quotes: 10 photos received, 10 quotes sent, 4 booked, and 63 seconds on average from photo to quote, with the arithmetic (631 seconds over 10 quotes) on the page.
  2. The owner's price book drives every quote: $38 a foot for a new fence, $8 a foot to take out the old one, $95 a post, $240 for a gate and $450 for the smallest job. The owner can edit every price.
  3. Marcus Hollis texts a photo of an old wood fence and says it is 40 ft long. The system reads the photo and prices it: $1,520 for the new fence, $320 for the removal and $570 for 6 posts, which is $2,410 before the range.
  4. The quote goes out as a range, $2,220 to $2,700, in the owner's words with a booking link. The range is 8 percent below to 12 percent above the price because the length was stated. A check confirms the text contains no amount other than the range.
  5. Priya Okafor texts a photo of an open yard and no length. The system asks one question, about how many feet along the run. She answers "Around 60 feet, I think."
  6. Because the length is only her guess, the quote is held for the owner instead of going out. The range is wider, $2,820 to $3,760 from a price of $3,135, and the screen says why.
  7. The owner changes the range to $3,000 to $3,600 and sends it. The change from $2,820 to $3,760 is recorded. When Marcus picks Thu, Oct 15 through the booking link, the board reads 12 quotes sent and 5 booked.

What the sample data shows

After those two quotes the board reads 12 quotes sent of 12 photos, 5 booked, and 811 seconds over 12 quotes, which is 68 seconds each. The board adds that this counts our reading and pricing, not time spent waiting for a customer or for the owner, and that quoted prices are not money earned.

Every shop, customer and past quote is invented, and the photos are three drawings labelled as samples. The two photo readings on the path came from a local model on real runs on 2026-10-17 and are stored, so the recording never waits on a model; a live reading takes 60 to 90 seconds. The script that walks the path passed 77 checks.

Hire it, rent it or own it

The job a photo quote system does can be done by a person, by rented software or by a system you own. This table sets hiring, renting and owning a photo quote system side by side, using only what is on this page.

What building it for your company involves

To build this for your company we would load your own price book and read a few of your real photo requests to set what it asks and how it words the text. We would test it on jobs you have already quoted, so you can compare its ranges with yours, and set which kinds of quote are always held for you.

Tell us the job you would hand over and we build a photo quote system around your company. A working prototype on your own data comes first, in 7 to 10 days, and you pay nothing for the build until you have seen the photo quote system work. Custom systems such as a photo quote system start at $10,000, fixed, and everything we build is yours at handoff. If you want help with the photo quote system afterwards, care is $997 a month.

Questions people ask

Will it send a quote without my approval?

Only when the customer has stated the length. When the length is the customer's own guess, the quote is held and nothing goes out until you send it. Your version would have the same switch.

Can it read any photo?

It reads what the photo shows that matters for the price. If the photo does not show enough, it says so instead of guessing, and the job is read as unclear.

Where do the prices come from?

From your price book, which you can see and edit. The system does the arithmetic and the range rules; it does not invent a price.

Is this running for a real company?

No. It runs on invented sample data for an imaginary fence company: the shop, the customers and the past quotes are made up, the photos are drawings, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What would a photo quote system for our business cost?

A custom system starts at $10,000 as one fixed fee, quoted after the $499 audit reads how you quote today. You would see it price your own past photo requests from your own price book in a prototype ready within 7 to 10 days, before the build fee is due.
